WHO WE ARE
The Northshore Public Education
Foundation (NPEF) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that raises money to
fund academic excellence for every student in the Northshore School District.
The Foundation operates independently from the Northshore School District but
works collaboratively with the District to support approved curriculum.
The Foundation is dedicated to
enhancing learning opportunities for all Northshore students and funds
projects/programs that strive to:

HOW WE RAISE MONEY FOR NORTHSHORE STUDENTS
The Foundation is funded solely
by private contributions. Its two major fundraisers are the
Calling for Kids
Phonathon (November) and the “Light a Fire for Learning” community
luncheon (May). Additional funds come from generous donors through workplace
giving campaigns (United Way) and corporate partnerships as well as individual
and corporate donors.

2005 – 2006 Fundraising Focus
Inquiry-based, hands-on Science
Kits $124,000
Four kits for every junior high
school. Kits include all experiment materials, student guides and teacher
materials. Topics covered include: ecology, ecosystems
and populations, human body
systems and chemistry
Reader’s Workshop Theme Kits Grades 2 -
5 $ 20,000
Kits include a variety of books on a single theme scaled
for a range of reading levels

2004 – 2005 Purchases
Inquiry-based, hands-on Science
Kits $ 80,000
Six kits in all 21 elementary
schools. Two elementary schools received kindergarten pilot science kits.
Topics covered included: plants, ecosystems, flight & rocketry, physics of
sound, structures of life and wood & paper.
Science Classroom Safety
Equipment $ 30,000
Every secondary school received
equipment based on specific needs identified at each school. Items included:
asbestos gloves, chemical spill kits, flame resistant lab coats, lab aprons,
fire blankets, goggles, etc.

Grants
$ 14,000
Grants supported a variety of
classroom projects in literacy, science and the arts.
