Legacy of Excellence Campaign 2003—2006
The vision and treasure of
the Legacy donors helped the Foundation build its capacity to support
Northshore’s students and teachers.
In 2003, NPEF Trustees
realized that the organization needed a professional fundraiser to meet
the mission of enhancing learning opportunities for all students . The
dilemma they faced – how could they hire a professional with the
necessary skills when they had not raised enough money to support the
position. As an infant organization with an annual budget near $40,000,
it was clear that something creative had to be tried. The NPEF Trustees
decided to “ask for help” from the community.
The Legacy of Excellence
was created to recognize and honor donors who came forward to enhance
NPEF’s ability to help student’s learn. Setting a goal of $100,000, they
demonstrated their support by donating funds specifically for NPEF
infrastructure.
As a result, the majority
of the money that was raised through regular campaigns such as the
Calling For Kids phonathon and Light a Fire for Learning benefit
luncheon, could be used for grants to teachers and the district. Because
of the confidence and trust demonstrated by these donors, within two
years, NPEF increased its fundraising capacity by over 400%.
