Local Education Foundation is looking for FANs
Bothell, WA — What are FANS? . . . people and
businesses that Fund A Need. This month the Norhshore Public Education
Foundation (NPEF) begins a pilot program called Fund A Need (FAN). Created to
give donors an opportunity to direct their donations to a specific project, FAN
gives teachers an opportunity to fund programs that are not funded or only
partially funded by PTA activities, NPEF grants, or other sources of funding.
Fund A Need complements fundraising campaigns currently in progress in
Northshore schools and will make an immediate impact in our classrooms.
Here is how it works. A teacher, school or volunteer submits a simple
application to NPEF. The application requires approval from the school’s
Principal to ensure the program fits within school guidelines and is not
currently being funded by other resources. An independent committee, appointed
by NPEF, reviews the applications.
Once the project has been approved for funding, it’s posted on the NPEF website.
All supporters have to do is go to the Foundation website (www.npefoundation.org
<http://www.npefoundation.org/> ) to locate a project
they would like to fund. A supporter can fund all or part of a project.
Donations are tax deductible and, aside from a 3% processing fee, 100% of the
contributions go directly to the school to fund their need.
Projects currently posted for funding include a Native Wetlands area at Skyview
Junior High; a Kindergarten Writing Program at Canyon Creek Elementary; a
Science Fair at Kenmore Elementary; Metal Fabrication Equipment at Kenmore
Junior High, Therapeutic Horseback Riding at Arrowhead Elementary; and,
Microscopes for Woodmoor Elementary.
For more information about Fund A Need please go to www.npefoundation.org
<http://www.npefoundation.org/> or phone (425)
489-6465. With the Community’s support we can all be FANs of education.

Tiger Woods
Foundation Funds Science Initiative for Northshore Public Schools
Bothell, WA-The
Northshore Public Education Foundation (NPEF) is pleased to announce that it has
received $5,000 from the Tiger Woods Foundation in support of it’s Science
Initiative.
The goal of
NPEF’s Science Initiative is to put science in the hands of every Northshore
Student. The purpose is to ensure that every child in the Northshore School
District receives an exciting science curriculum that encourages them to learn
and excel in science. In the past two year’s NPEF has invested more than
$120,000 toward the Science Initiative through the purchase of The Full Option
Science System (FOSS) curriculum and secondary textbooks and safety equipment.
This Science
Initiative identifies one of our educational systems greatest challenges:
implementing science education in the classroom. In 2004 the State of Washington
announced new grade level expectations for science. With the $5,000 gift from
the Tiger Woods Foundation, NPEF will continue to place Science curriculum into
the Northshore Public schools.

Northshore Public Education Foundation
Building a Legacy
Bothell, WA- The Northshore Public Education Foundation
(NPEF) is pleased to announce that the Feik Family Children’s Fund has
generously contributed more than $7,500 to the Legacy of Excellence. Thanks to
this generous gift the Legacy of Excellence is just a few thousand dollars away
from generating its Legacy Goal.
By directing these funds to the Legacy of Excellence
the Feik Family Children’s Fund will insure that NPEF can continue to enhance
its fundraising activities, giving even more resources back to the School
District and insuring that all Northshore students receive equal opportunities
for enhanced learning. The vision and treasure of the Legacy donors continue to
help the Foundation build its capacity to support Northshore’s students and
teachers.
Since 1995 the Northshore Public Education Foundation
has been dedicated to enhancing learning opportunities for all Northshore
students. For the first several years of the foundation’s existence, that
mission was focused on awarding $10,000 – $15,000 in classroom teacher grants
annually. As the needs of the school district grew, the NPEF Trustees recognized
that the foundation would have to do more to ensure that all Northshore students
received the high quality education expected by the Northshore community.
In 2003, NPEF Trustees realized that a professional
fundraiser was critical to meeting the mission of enhancing learning
opportunities for all students. The challenge was how to hire a skilled
professional without having enough money to support the position. As an infant
organization with an annual budget near $40,000, it was clear that something
creative had to be tried. The NPEF Trustees decided to “ask for help” from the
community.
The Legacy of Excellence was created to recognize and
honor donors who came forward to enhance NPEF’s ability to help students learn.
Setting a goal of $100,000, these donors demonstrated their support by
contributing funds specifically for NPEF infrastructure. Because of the
confidence and trust demonstrated by these donors, within two years, NPEF has
increased its fundraising capacity by over 400%.
For more information about the Legacy of Excellence and
to be recognized as a Founder on the Honor Wall located in the District
Administration Building, contact Jean Fowler, Executive Director,
educationfoundation@mail2.nsd.org.

Matt Hasselbeck Autographed
Footballs raise more than $4,000
to Benefit Northshore Students
Bothell, WA — Thanks to many enthusiastic Seahawk fans, the Northshore
Public Education Foundation and Shelton View Elementary recently auctioned three
Matt Hasselbeck Footballs for $1,000 each.
Super Bowl Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck visited Shelton View Elementary School in
fall and left behind several official NFL footballs. With the Seahawks headed
to the Superbowl the autographed footballs were a perfect opportunity to raise
money for reading materials in the Northshore School District.
Through the auction and with additional gifts from generous donors the footballs
have raised more than $4,000 to provide reading materials for the Shelton View
library and other programs within the District.
Bids for the three footballs auctioned came from as far north as Vancouver,
Canada and all over Western Washington. The Foundation and school are thrilled
at what this means for their library.
