Math/Science/History

Sciencing Workshops - Canyon Creek Elementary ($1,000).   Provided science kits for students to learn through scientific investigation and inquiry.

6th Grade Technology Based Classrooms - Hollywood Hill Elementary ($1,000).  In-Focus projector to aid group presentations and internet based lessons.

Sciencing - Kokanee Elementary ($996).  Used to purchase science kits.

Kokanee Watershed Forest - Kokanee Elementary ($400).  Hillside planting for hands on science and promoting community involvement.

Skyview Tree Project - Skyview Junior High ($400).  Tree planting as an aid to science.

Model United Nations - Inglemoor High School ($1,000). A nation wide program to get kids interested in the United Nations and global politics.

Literacy/Language

Evening of Poetry - Kenmore Elementary ($200). An evening of poetry that culminates ten-weeks of study.

Project Smile - Westhill Elementary ($1,000). Leveled reading materials and related training for students in grades kindergarten, first, second, third, ESL and CLC.

Kindergarten Take-Home Reading Program - Woodmoor Elementary ($1,000). Leveled reading books for grades kindergarten through second and CLC.

Learning Center Audio - Visual Supplementary Library - Inglemoor High School ($700).  Books on tape and cliff notes to expand auditory and visual library of literature.

Falcons Leading the Way to Success  - Woodinville High School ($1,000).  High School students tutor elementary students for English, writing and speaking skills.

Spanish 100 Immersion - Woodinville High School ($500).  Flash Cards and other visual aids for Spanish immersion.

Music/Art

Rhythm and World Cultures - Maywood Hills Elementary ($756). Used to buy cultural musical instruments.

Inglemoor High School Medieval Feast - Inglemoor High School ($1,000). A medieval Festival presented to the community.

Physical Fitness

Spring 2001 Mini-Unit, Pacific Northwest Bird Study -  Lockwood Elementary ($1,000). Three-month study of birds, using field trips special training, and a guest speaker.

The Foundation also awarded:

          *$100 to each school in the district to purchase books for their school library.

*$2,400 to pay student registrations for math and science Olympiads.

*$1,000 to Kenmore Elementary for supplemental materials to enrich           opportunities for full day kindergarten.

*$1,000 to Kenmore Elementary for math/science curriculum enhancement for at-risk students.

*$1000 to Kenmore Elementary –– Family Literacy for Spanish-speaking students. Resource materials for 12 Spanish-speaking families. Book, tapes, etc. Once a week family classes.

 

Grants Awarded 1999-2000

Math /Science/History

Friday Afternoon Activities - Canyon Creek Elementary ($1,000). These classes offered to the students helped them with their math skills.

Butterfly Garden - Arrowhead Elementary ($510). The school created a garden that grew the plants that provided a caterpillar, butterfly and hummingbird habitat.

Accelerated Math - Maywood Hills Elementary ($913). Program is to help students meet state and district standards in math.

Success for Life - Sunrise Elementary ($460). Used to fund a program that taught special education students in school how to start and maintain a garden, bake sales and luncheons, and money skills as they learn the basics of running a business.

Understanding Earth - Timbercrest Junior High ($591). The laser disc program allows students to explore the solar system and the different geographical problems and differences on Earth.

Model United Nations - Inglemoor High School ($1,050). A nation wide program geared towards getting students interested in the United Nations and global politics.

Literacy

Summer School Program - Crystal Springs Elementary ($810). The program helped students at-risk in reading, writing or math, to avoid or decrease that amount of regression that occurs during summer vacation.

Parallel Block Reading - Fernwood Elementary ($1,000). The grant provided books for primary students that are emergent readers struggling within the existing curriculum.

Read Naturally - Frank Love Elementary ($1,000). Students, grades three through sixth, were invited to attend an extended day program for five days, to improve reading comprehension, fluency and ability to retell.

Summer Jump Start - Moorlands Elementary ($451). Used for a week long, half-day program to help students with difficulties to re-enter school more smoothly. 

The Basic Five - Woodmoor Elementary ($9900. Provides a lesson plan for students with special needs to learn everyday basic skills through five basic lessons. 

Summer Reading Program - Woodmoor Elementary ($1,000). The summer reading program helps children who struggle with reading.

Academic Enrichment - Kenmore Junior High ($1,000). Brings in speakers on a variety of subjects to help students connect what they learn in school with how they will use it in real life.

Music/Art

Bass Marimba for Shelton View Elementary - Shelton View Elementary ($1,000). Used to purchase a bass marimba for the music room.

Opera in the Classroom - Woodinville High School ($1,000). Used to bring in a speaker and singer from the Seattle Opera.

Physical Fitness

Infusing Technology into Physical Education - Woodmoor Elementary ($1,000). Students acquire the skill of creating and editing their own P.E. and Music videos.

 

Grants Awarded 1998-1999

Math/Science/History

Future Problem Solving Competition - Maywood Hills Elementary ($1000). The Future Problem Solving is a nation wide academic competition that gives school teams an opportunity to work together to propose innovative solutions to complex problems. Used to help fund club awards, FPS materials and scholarships.

Kitchen Cart - Woodin Elementary ($980). Used to create a cart that would help bring cultural awareness and knowledge in measurements through cooking.

Outdoor Education - W.A. Anderson ($600).  Designed to provide special ed. students and at risk-youth, with opportunities to learn about their community and their environment.

Turning the Other Cheek - Inglemoor High School ($1,400). Students constructed real DNA fingerprints from their own cheek cells.

Literacy

Looking Toward the Future…… Applying What you Learn - Hollywood Hill Elementary ($300). Students construct various hands on projects to help practice and apply essential skills in communication, reading and math.

Reaching Kokanee’s Reading Goal - Kokanee Elementary ($700). Purchased books for the Kokanee Tutorial program for young readers before and during school hours.

Learning Center Audio/Visual Supplementary Library - Inglemoor High School ($800). Used to create an auditory and visual library of literature so students with disabilities could participate in the lessons more fully.

Multi-Media Readers Theater - Inglemoor High School ($1,000). Students put together a multi-media presentation around a theme and a time period.

A Vivid Image - Inglemoor High School ($1,000). Help improve the orientation of new students to the library, project speakers to audiences of teachers and parents, and allow students to produce projects on Hyperstudio/Power Point.

Music/Art

Paint Like Monet - Kenmore Junior High ($425-$675). After an extensive study of impressionism, the students took a day trip to the arboretum to study light and paint their impressions.

Tessellation T-Shirts - Kenmore Junior High ($800). After students created an original tessellation on the computer and made t-shirts from the design using a thermal screen printing process.
