Math/Science/History
Colonial Day
(Wellington Elementary/$809) An entire school day will be dedicated
to recreating daily life during Colonial Times. All 5th
graders will participate through a variety of hands-on experiences,
make and eat appropriate foods, and dress in period costumes.
Visualizing Social
Studies
(Woodin Elementary/$939) A program that supplements the district
Social Studies curriculum with materials that are designed to attract
students. The materials encourage discovery and creativity in
learning with imaginatively written and illustrated text that explores
major historical eras in depth.
Math Literacy
Packets
(Woodin Elementary/$880) This cross-grade level program involves
both younger and older students as well as their families. Teams of
younger and older students explore math concepts with the help of the
math literacy packets (MLP). Younger students then take the MPL
packets home to share with their families.
Sound and Waves
(Leota Junior High/$1,000) Through a visual representation of waves,
this equipment will give students a opportunity to see how sound,
light and all energy is carried from one place to the next in the form
of waves.

Step Up to Writing
Improvement
(Arrowhead Elementary/$500) Program to provide cohesive, explicit
strategies for direct writing instruction for all students in grades 3
6 through instruction and practice in narrative and expository
writing.
Guided Reading
Books
(Bear Creek Elementary/$500) Literacy materials to supplement and
enhance current district reading curriculum. Uses individualized and
small group instruction of specific skills.
Earlybird Reading
(Crystal Spring Elementary/$500) Provides literacy materials for the
before school reading program that uses community volunteers to assist
Special Education and ESL students with their reading skills.
Talknology
(Crystal Springs Elementary & Canyon Park Junior High/$1,000) - This
program allows elementary and junior high students, staff and parents
to assess and monitor communication growth through the use of a
co-produced audio-video homework CD.
Connecting 1st
Grade Readers with Leveled Books
(Fernwood Elementary/$500) Students will learn and practice
strategies and skills appropriate to their individual stage of reading
development. They will share their accomplishments with their parents
and progress from learning to read to reading to learn.
Step Up To Writing
Improvement
(Maywood Hills/$858) Supplement Houghton Mifflin Language Arts
curriculum with practice in writing organized paragraphs with detail.
It will assist students in three specially designed transition
classrooms and 3 fourth grade classrooms.
Shelton View
Traveling Readers
(Shelton View Elementary/$500) This program builds a partnership
with families to enhance reading opportunities for each Shelton View
student, individually. This year the take home book collection will
be expanded so that more students can participate.
YES
(Westhill Elementary/$1,000) An extended day learning opportunity
for K 6 students in a safe, enriching environment where they will
work to meet higher academic standards and develop positive
interactions with other students and adults.
Primary Leveled
Books (Woodin
Elementary/$500) These books will supplement the existing leveled
book collection. Leveled books appropriately match a students
reading level so that they can practice known reading strategies,
comprehend the material read, and build fluency.
Kindergarten Take
Home Reading
(Woodmoor Elementary/$1,000) Students will increase reading fluency
by practice, parental involvement and monitored progress. The project
will develop student confidence and success in their reading ability,
create excitement for reading and establish a clear home/school
connection.
Project WIN
(Woodinville High School/$991) Through the use of books on tape,
recorders and other accessories, Learning Center students will improve
their reading rate and word attack skills as well as their reading
comprehension and letter word identification. |
